visitors and residents a place to remember
and enjoy the history of the Island. They
are also now collecting memorabilia of all

This
is one of California's last surviving examples
of the great waterfront recreational pavilions
from the turn of the century. Built in 1905
by the Newport Bay Investment Company, it
played a prominent role in the development
of Newport Beach as a seaside recreation
area. In 1906, it became the southern terminus
for the Pacific Electric Railway connecting
the beach with downtown Los Angeles. The
railway's Red Cars connected the beach with
Los Angeles in only one hour.
The
Balboa Performing Arts Theater’s goal is
to collaborate with local arts organizations
such as Pacific Symphony, Opera Pacific,
Saint Joseph Ballet, and many others, both
large and small, to showcase their artists
and present their art forms in new ways.
Once open, the Balboa Performing Arts Theater
will provide a home for up-and-coming musicians,
singers, dancers and other performers who
reside in Southern California. The theater
will also offer arts education programs
for children and adults to enhance their
enjoyment and appreciation of all the arts.
Although Balboa Island is accessed by bridges
from the mainland, why miss the opportunity
to cross on the ferry! Balboa Island Ferry
has provided continuous service between
Balboa Island and Balboa Peninsula since
1919. This scenic crossing is about a quarter
mile long and is open daily. Hours vary.
The Balboa Fun Zone is one of Southern California's
oldest and last great coastal amusement
areas. Attractions include the old horse
carousel built in 1938, a 14-foot trampoline,
laser tag, arcade and boat tours. Located
on the Balboa Peninsula of Newport Beach.
