This is one of California's last surviving
examples of the great waterfront recreational
pavilions from the turn of the century.
Built in 1905 by the Newport Bay Investment
Company, it played a prominent role in
the development of Newport Beach as a
seaside recreation area. In 1906, it became
the southern terminus for the Pacific
Electric Railway connecting the beach
with downtown Los Angeles. The railway's
Red Cars connected the beach with Los
Angeles in only one hour.
Discovery Cube’s Ocean Quest inspires, educates and engages the explorer within. Visit with local tide pool creatures like: sea stars, urchins, limpets, sea hares and more!
At Ocean Quest, visitors can see the latest traveling exhibit, explore hands-on learning in the Ocean Lab, and then enjoy the rest of the day exploring the Balboa Village with rides and great food at the Balboa Fun Zone (just steps away on the Balboa Peninsula).
Formed through the merger of Laguna and
Newport Harbor Art Museums in July 1996,
OCMA continues and expands upon the artistic
legacy of its two predecessor organizations.
Exhibitions organized by OCMA's curators
are in demand and regularly are circulated
to major cities across the country. Today,
an exciting and ever-changing schedule
of exhibitions is presented throughout
the year.
