South County Pet Expo & Dog-a-Palooza - Lake Forest

Main Event Rescheduled to March 11th

Due to rainstorms expected this Friday and Saturday, the South County Pet Expo has been rescheduled to Saturday, March 11, 2017 from 10 am to 2 pm. W. Bruce Cameron, author of “A Dog’s Purpose,” is unable to reschedule, so his presentation will continue as planned at 10:30 am this Saturday, February 18, 2017. It will be held indoors at the Lake Forest Sports Park Recreation Center, with a book signing event to follow.

This exciting and informative event, presented by Chairwoman Lisa Bartlett, Orange County Board of Supervisors, OC Animal Care, and the City of Lake Forest. Mount of Olives Church-Mission Viejo will perform a special Blessing of the Animals to all pets present. This family and pet friendly event will also feature rescue groups with many loving animals available for adoption, fun and exciting canine demonstrations, local vendors providing all manner of pet products and services, as well as the inaugural Dog-a-Palooza Pet Parade!

Free admission, parking and shuttle service.

Prep Stars Free Sports Training Sessions - Irvine

On Sunday February 19th, Prep Stars youth training camps are having a free-training session at Crean Lutheran High School in Irvine! The event is open to everyone as part of Prep Stars' youth community-outreach program. Parents and children in the Irvine area are invited to experience a day of fun sports training with one of the nation's best sports training schools.

Boys and girls can choose from either soccer, volleyball or basketball for their free skills training day. Soccer is on the grass field from 12:30pm-2:00pm (boys and girls ages 5-12 welcome). Basketball is inside the gym from 2:30pm-4:00pm (boys and girls ages 5-12 welcome). And Volleyball is in the gym from 12:30pm-2:00pm (girls ages 7-15 welcome) Prep Stars will also be offering discounted packages for any newcomers who attend the event.

Los Alamitos 'Race on the Base' - Los Alamitos
February 24 & 25, 2017

The yearly event has continued to provide not only a forum for local avid runners and walkers, but has also instilled a sense of pride and teamwork between the Los Alamitos City Council, the citizens of Los Alamitos, the Rossmoor Community Services District, and the local business community.

The race is held on the run ways at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos and features helicopters, planes and military vehicles with music throughout the course. Events and activities for the whole family!

The Kid's Pet Parade - San Juan Capistrano
RESCHEDULED due to rain: February 25, 2017
10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.

Part of the annual Fiesta de las Golondrinas celebration. Kids between the ages of 5 to 12 can show off their favorite animals in a contest for, The Cutest, Most Unusual, Best Team Costume (owner and pet), Funniest & Most Obedient (pet, not child).

A special "Judges Choice" prize will be awarded and this winner will be given the opportunity to be in the Swallows' Day Parade.

Irvine Park Railroad Anniversary Celebration
February 25-26, 2017

To celebrate their 21st year of business and to show appreciation to all their loyal customers Irvine Park is rolling back to their original 1996 prices during their anniversay weekend… including $2.00 train rides!

BARKS OF LOVE Animal Rescue Shelter Festival and Gala

Support Barks of Love Animal Rescue at the "Bark Bash" of the year!

Barks of Love, in partnership with The Event Loft and Gray Matter Museum, will be hosting their largest fundraiser ever in an effort to raise money to open a facility to become the rescue's home. For a $10 minimum donation (Kids and Dogs are free) you and your family can join the fun at the daytime event which will feature Adoptable Dogs, a Doggie Kissing Booth, Pet Modeling & Photography, Pup Pampering, Agility Demonstrations, Food, Music, and more!

There will also be a "VIP Gala" from 6pm - 9pm including Fashion Show, Auction, Hors d'oeuvres and Bar! A minimum donation of $500 admits 2 guests.

Parenting OC's Annual Summer Opportunities Jamboree - Santa Ana

This night of Old West entertainment consists of four contests are rolled into one! Best Dressed Old West Man, Best Dressed Old West Woman, Best Belt Buckle, and the Hairiest Man (best moustache and/or beard). So don your finest Old West outfit, belt buckle or facial hair! and enter one or more of the contests. There is a $5 entry fee (pay when you arrive) per category for each contestant entered.

For the more timid, spectators are always welcome at the hilarious Fiesta Grandé.

Swallows Day Parade & Mercado - San Juan Capistrano

The Parade takes place in down-town San Juan Capistrano. This is the nation's largest non-motorized parade. It is totally organized and presented by the San Juan Capistrano Fiesta Association. Arrive early; most street closures are by 10.00 a.m. The parade begins promptly at 11 am.

The Mercado is a Street Fair and Market Place where you can eat, drink, and shop at over 100 booths. It is THE place to be after the parade! Listen and dance to the music of The Working Cowboy Band, a traditional country music band.

Spring Break at the Lake Mud Run
Saturday, March 25, 2017

Celebrate spring break this year by running (or come cheer on the runners!) the approximate +5k course beginning and ending at Irvine Lake. The course is partially on the road and partially on trails and includes hills, water, professionally built obstacles and over a dozen mud pits. You asked for even more mud, you got it! You will get wet and you will get muddy. Be sure to bring towels and a change of clothing.
